Super Weekend: Half Moon Bay
I joined Clipboard after 10 years in a totally different industry, and I frequently say that I learned more in my first year here than in the previous five combined. That's not to say I didn’t learn plenty previously, it’s just what happens when you work in a high ownership environment, with exceptional people, on problems that matter.
This is why I get genuinely excited when new grads join us. I remember being that person: eager, curious, and dying to make an impact somewhere. At Clipboard, new grads don't just contribute—they drive actual change. Our recent Super Weekend in Half Moon Bay made me appreciate this even more.
Students showed up Friday and jumped straight into learning about the business. Many told us they were surprised by how transparent Clipboard was— something that continues to delight me too. On Saturday, we brought in real customers so students could hear directly from healthcare professionals. Touching reality yourself is a value we take seriously, and I saw students realize the value themselves.
Over dinner on Saturday (Peruvian food and beautiful views of the water!)I found myself listening to candidates talk about why they picked their majors or how they got into triathlons. The pattern was one I recognized: ridiculously smart, hardworking people you'd actually want to hang out with. Working with people like this is exactly why I've stayed at Clipboard for 3.5 years.
By Sunday, as everyone was getting ready to head home, candidates were actively seeking feedback on their writing. Better yet, they weren't just collecting critiques—they were trying to challenge their own mental models and learn how to improve their writing when they didn’t have people on hand to talk through things with.
Driving home, I realized I couldn't wait to read their final submissions. And after I did, I couldn't wait to see who received offers. The weekend was intense—more synchronous, like our quarterly offsites than our normal remote workdays with few meetings—but it captured what makes the Clipboard product team special: smart people, uncomfortable standards, fast pace, and an almost obsessive focus on solving real problems for customers.
We're doing another one of these weekends at the end of March. If you're graduating soon and want to work somewhere that sees your fresh perspective as an advantage instead of a handicap, come check us out. We're hiring, and there’s always room for smart people ready to work hard.
